Fast and Furious 7 Review

Girls, bullets, cars and the rock! We all knew what was coming in the seventh instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise.

Fast and Furious 7 stars Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris, Kurt Russell and Nathalie Emmanuel.

This film picks up in an odd place. The film starts with Jason Statham’s character talking to his brother’s unconscious body in hospital, then he goes and pays Hobbs a visit then we get the after credits scene from Fast and Furious 6 and we go from there. Dominic Toretto and his crew have to hunt down Shaw because he has killed and is hunting his family! This seventh installment does the same sort of thing as 5 and 6 did in the fact it isn’t really about the cars anymore but is instead about the people, the missions and comic book-esque stunts. I say comic book because there is no way anyone survives in this film! The main thing that annoyed me was near the end when Statham and Diesel are having a fight and they go on for a while and they don’t even draw blood! I know its 12A (that’s UK for PG13) but there are certain things that kind of take you out the movie but for some reason with this franchise it adds to it.

Now to the elephant in the room, Paul Walkers death, the way his character finishes is very realistic and suits the way the film it was going. I have a feeling they added the story though to do with him after his passing because obviously if there is an 8th installment he would have been there. But credit to the makers for giving him a very touching send off and you can’t tell when it was his brothers standing in for him mixed with the CGI, you can slightly tell at the end but it doesn’t matter. The tribute was very emotional.

Overall, I rate 8/10. The film was standard Fast and Furious but I still prefer Fast 5 to this one and it did slightly go over the top with the realism. With another installment being lined up it will be interesting to see where the next film goes for the “one last ride”. I think the franchise could make a really good comic book to be honest. RIP Paul Walker
