Insurgent Review

I’m gonna be honest, I did not see Divergent until a week before this film came out and I decided Shailene Woodley looks a lot better with long hair!
Insurgent stars Shailene Woodley as Tris, Kate Winslet as Jeanine, Theo James as Four, Ansel Elgort as Caleb, Miles Teller as Peter and Jai Courtney as Eric.

Insurgent is the second film in the Divergent series. This film follows Tris as she starts a rebellion against Jeanine and the Erudite faction. Tris and Four spend the film on the run searching for friends and family to join their uprising. Tris becomes too attached to the people around her and doesn’t want to lose them so in order to find out about the past and what is beyond the walls of the city she must fight her inner demons in a series of test and prove that she is Divergent.

To be honest, the film wasn’t that bad, I have seen a lot worse! The acting wasn’t great, the writing didn’t help and the fact that it is pretty much the first film repeated. I know it will just be following the books but then surely the books can’t be that great either. Throughout the entire films you could just feel moments that were from Hunger Games and Harry Potter. It felt completely lazy! There are many plot holes through out the film. The ending of this film is as bad as the ending to the first film because it is suppose to leave us wanting more. As the second film in the series, it is suppose to expand the universe and give us more questions which will be answered in the final film, but the film just wraps up. Maybe they weren’t confident about getting the third film made and just decided to wrap it up nicely but, it is probably more down to the books.

In the end, I rate Insurgent 5/10. There are a few good scenes but most of the film I spent laughing and shaking my head cos it was just so stupid. I can’t say I am worried if we ever see the next installment or not but I really do pray they do not split it into two parts.

What were your thoughts on the film and what do you think of the Divergent series?
