Avatar (not The Last Airbender) is about when paralysed marine Jake Sulley’s brother is killed Jake(Sam Worthington) takes his brothers place on a mission on a distant planet called Pandora. Jake quickly learns about the cruel intentions of greedy corporate leader Parker Selfridge (Giovanni Ribisi), who intends to mine for a precious material, scattered on the land which would destroy the home of the native species, the Na’vi. However, Jake agrees to help because they have promised that they will fix his legs. Jake attempts to gather intel, while trying to infilitrate the Na’vi people by putting his consciousness in an Avatar body. When Jake starts to bond with the Na’vi he soon realises his mistake. Jake tries to stop Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang), but Jake must take a stand with Na’vi people in order to fully stop their home world from being destroyed.

Avatar was built as one of the most amazing films to ever be seen, with James Cameron directing and it taking so long to perfect the CGI. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the expectations that I thought it was going to. I was really disappointed, the story was quite plain and the characters did not have any development really. The film was just there for the amazing CGI that it had. It was an obvious draw to the film and something the marketing were obviously going to use to their advantage. I guess then you would really have to see the CGI in it’s glory in 3D in the cinema. I did not, but that does not change the film to me. I don’t find myself including Avatar in my top 10 films or anyway near high up in my top 100. Plus I don’t see myself wanting to watch this film again like I do with a truly great film. The performances weren’t that special either, apart from Zoe Saldana, the cast could have been replaced by anyone else.Don’t get me wrong it is not a bad film, there is a lot of really cool stuff in this film, but with a slightly better story that was less predicatable it would score a higher rating.

Overall, I rate Avatar 7/10. It really did not live up to what I wanted and I am a massive Sci Fi fan so it was very disappointing. I am looking forward to the sequels because I feel like there is a lot of potential for the series moving forward.
