Suicide Squad Review (No Spoilers)

Worst Heroes Ever!

Suicide Squad stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne, Jay Hernandez, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Joel Kinnaman, Adam Beach and Karen Fukuhara.

Amanda Waller comes up with a plan to use criminals to fight other villains that the army are not able to fight. She shortlists criminals Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, El Diablo, Killer Croc and Slipknot along with Rick Flag and Katana to keep them inline and on task. If the team attempt to escape, then an explosive device in their head will go off. If the team succeed then they get time off their prison sentence. A mystical spirit plans to take over the world, can the squad stop this being or will their bad guy ways kick in?

At the beginning of this year, I set Suicide Squad as the film I was looking forward to most in 2016 (Yes, more than Rogue One and Civil War). Then once, the early reviews were came out, I saw a couple of reviews on YouTube saying that they really enjoyed the film and then I started to see more reviews about Critics slating the film and scoring it very badly, but I continued to be optimistic about the film. I came out of the film and I did really enjoy it. It has a few problems but I really enjoyed it and I am happy about the movie we got.

Positives. The characters work really well together and you can tell that the cast, off set were really close and character had good moments with the other characters. Harley Quinn and El Diablo, were standouts to me. A lot of credit goes to Margot Robbie, who nailed the character of Harley Quinn perhaps the best out of anyone in the film. Harley Quinn was portrayed perfectly and exactly what I wanted and worked very well with the Joker. The Joker was something I was not sure about when I saw the initial look of Jared Leto as The Joker, but I love what we have got. He is terrifying and a bit more like a gangster than previously, and is not in the film too much. I cannot to see more of The Joker and Harley together hopefully in the solo Batman movie.  El Diablo also stood out as a character who you feel the most for throughout the film and leaves intrigue but that will be talked more about in spoilers. I also liked how the film looked, it fits perfectly into the universe we have seen in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. From the colour to the action, everything visually was awesome and felt comic booky. Linking to that point, this movie feels like a comic book. It reminded me a lot of an animated Batman film called Assault on Arkham and for me that is a plus.

Negatives. I didn’t like villain. I will talk about it more in a spoiler review but I was expecting something bigger and more menacing than what we got. Another point that took me out of the film was the soundtrack, I liked the songs but at times it felt out of place and too forced, where a song was not needed and a good score would have been more beneficial.

Overall, I rate Suicide Squad 7/10! I will be doing a review of Suicide Squad in the next few days where I can talk more about specifics in the film. But I can see why this film, did not work for some people and that is fine but I enjoyed it and my favourite in this new DC universe so far.
