Hidden Figures stars Taraji P Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, Kevin Costner, Jim Parsons, Kirsten Dunst, Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge and Glen Powell.

When the Russians has put a man in space, the Americans respond and try to match them and beat them to the moon. Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson must defy their gender and race to help the team successfully get someone into space and safely return them home.

The biggest positive for me about this film is the superb acting by the whole cast. Taraji P Henson does well carrying the film as the main lead of the film, you really feel for her character as she struggles to get the recognition from her team. But for me it was the supporting cast that really elevate this film. Olivia Spencer was great and Janelle Monae, surprising with her acting talent and nailing her performance. The big surprise for me was seeing Jim Parsons playing someone who wasn’t Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. His fellow TBBT cast mate, Johnny Galecki tried his hand outside of the hit sitcom as well recently not as successfully in Rings, but Sheldon is the big standout in the show and I was worried I would just see him as Sheldon the whole film, but you don’t see him as Sheldon. He plays a similar character but without the quirky-ness of Sheldon, he manages to nail a different character.

The negative of the film is that it is slow and it had a big effect on the movie for me. The story is good and you really feel the impact of the racism of the times during the film. But the film is slow, it picks up at points but just goes through its story at a steady pace, which is okay because that is how the story actually happened but as a film it can have an impact and I found myself losing concentration on the film multiple times throughout.

Overall, I rate Hidden Figures 7/10! It is a good story with a strong message just slightly to slow.
