WRITERS STRIKE REACHES 100 DAYS

The writers and actors strike is still very much in full swing at the moment, halting productions across the globe. The WGA (The Writers Guild of America) has been on strike for just over 100 days now and doesn’t seem to be any closer to getting to a resolution. The most recent update has negotiations between the WGA and studios recommencing tomorrow (11th) which hopefully get towards this strike ending, and a step towards a solution for the writers.

On the subject of strikes, Michael Mann’s Ferrari has secured a deal with SAG-AFTRA that allows the actors involved to promote the film as the film is being released by NEON who have agreed to SAG’s proposal. The film stars Adam Driver, Shailene Woodley, Jack O’Connell, Penelope Cruz and Patrick Dempsey, and the film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival later this month, as well as closing out the New York Film Festival in October.

SYDNEY SWEENEY CONFIRMED AS JULIA CARPENTER

Madame Web will be Sony’s next film in their Spider-Man cinematic universe when it is released in February next year after Kraven the Hunter was delayed until Summer 2024. Little has been officially revealed about the film but speculation and rumours has had the plot being about multiple Spider-Women protecting a child Peter Parker, but the spiderverse is vast and contains many Spider-Women. Dakota Johnson is the lead so makes sense that she would be portraying the titular Madame Web but as for Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced and Celeste O’Connor it has been heavily speculated. In a new interview with Variety, it is confirmed that Sweeney will be playing Julia Carpenter. The character is known as the second Spider-Woman, and takes on the mantle as the second Madame Web.

FANTASTIC FOUR CASTING

Another week, another round of Fantastic Four casting. The internet was set on fire by reporter, Jeff Sneider when he revealed that according to his sources Vanessa Kirby is a lock for Invisible Woman, perhaps not a surprise given her public desire for the role and being the only actress linked who has gone as fan to say how interested she is in the role.

The second part that broke the internet a bit more was when Sneider revealed Jack Quaid was going to be the part of Johnny Storm/Human Torch. Quaid personally took to Twitter to denounce this rumour and it wasn’t true, before Sneider once again returned and apologised stating it’s a different JQ, Joseph Quinn is likely to be in the role. Quinn is a fresh face in the industry after his breakout role in the fourth season of Stranger Things as Eddie Munson, but has big roles in A Quiet Place: Day One and Gladiator 2 coming out boosting his star, so would be a fantastic get for Marvel to lock into this role.

HOT WHEELS MOVIE

Barbie recently crossed a billion dollars, so that means of course studios are going to take that as make films about toys that’s what movie fans want. Once again studios have learnt the wrong lesson. That being said a Hot Wheels film could be incredible, I have no doubt, any film can be, with the right creative people involved who are passionate about the project from cast to the crew, but what will likely happen is studios will quickly push these films out to capitalise on Barbie‘s success with a cheap script, actors who are getting paid and want a job, and an up and coming filmmaker who just wants to make something big. Again, I hope it’s great, I hope all films are.

This comes alongside the news that a Monopoly film is in early development.

TALK TO ME 2 GREENLIT BY A24

The studio not listening to what people and providing the most original films around are A24. Their most recent film, Talk to Me has had fantastic reception worldwide and with horror fans and critics alike. It will become just the third time A24 have greenlit a sequel after X and The Souvenir. The film had a budget of $4.5 million and has over quintupled that at the box office. Directors and YouTubers, Danny and Michael Philippou will return to direct the sequel.

And that’s your weekly Film & TV update returning back to the website, it’s something I’ve tried multiple times since the last entry but I have finally settled on Thursday’s being the best days for me with my work schedule to get this out to you every week. And with that comes a new name these posts will now be called Flooders Films Thursdays, or FF TH for short.

You may have also noticed that the site has had a makeover over the last couple of weeks and has returned to my own domain (although now floodersfilms.co.uk), which is why you can see ads on the site once again. This update I think makes the site slightly easier to navigate and a slightly more modern look. Let me know what you think of any of the updates below and be sure to follow me on social media. Thank you for your continued support.
