AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM TRAILER

The final film in the Snyderverse and the remnants of this DC Universe before it fully get’s rebooted under James Gunn’s rule. The first Aquaman did very well at the box office crossing over $1 billion worldwide, but then after Justice League fell flat the DC Universe lost their way, and with this sequel already being greenlit and in production it wasn’t going to be one they put in the can. However after the Amber Heard situation, and then The Flash causing the film to undergo reshoots, then Gunn taking over meaning even more reshoots leaves it in a funny place. James Wan has recently confirmed that the film won’t be tied to any universe really, taking out the Batman scenes which at one stage included Michael Keaton, then reshot with Ben Affleck.

The trailer certainly looks to be more of the same hijinx with Aquaman as Black Manta looks to take on the King of the Ocean, and unite the seven kingdoms. It all just feels so pointless, and lifeless when it doesn’t really matter and the universe is just going to be reset soon.

LANDO SERIES BECOMES A MOVIE

Star Wars continues to be a bit of a mess despite the success Ahsoka is having. The future of Star Wars still feels very scattered and has done since Disney bought Lucasfilm. One of the few brightest stars since the takeover was Donald Glover’s performance as scoundrel Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Even if fans didn’t want a sequel to that film, everyone recognised Glover’s performance was great and wanted to see more of him. It was announced a couple of years ago that a Disney+ series focused around the character was in the works, then little has been heard since with Glover working on numerous other projects in the meantime.

Star Wars seem to have refocused their plans focusing on films instead of series, despite the success of The Mandalorian, but they have also flopped with the fantastic series that fans didn’t watch, Andor. There are still a couple of series in the works with Skeleton Crew set to be released at the end of this year and The Acolyte releasing next year, but beyond that we have no news, especially with the culmination of The Mandalorian/The Book of Boba Fett/Ahsoka resulting in a film. It’s going to be a similar story as Lando is being shifted to a film, whether that will be one that will premiere on Disney+ we will have to wait and see. I’m glad to see a certain area of Star Wars focusing on cinema, but think there is more than enough love out there for a series, they just have to be of a quality people want to see. I think The Acolyte could be that and I hope it is. But anyway, I will take whatever Donald Glover I can get.

THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER TRAILER

Mike Flanagan has delivered some of the best series’ that Netflix has to offer over the last couple of years with Haunting of Bly Manor, Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass. American Horror Story is perhaps the only other time horror has been at such a high in series form and even that didn’t last. There’s something unique about Flanagan’s storytelling which really sets him apart and Netflix has done well to keep him coming back creating fantastic and terrifying series’. His latest series, The Fall of the House of Usher brings back a lot of Flanagan’s previous performers, and wil lno doubt dominate the streaming service in time for Halloween this year.
