THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS & SNAKES TRAILER

One of the more anticipated films for the end of the year is the prequel to the successful Hunger Games films. The latest full trailer for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes shows of more of what the story is going to be about as a young Cornelius Snow trains and falls for a District 12 tribute. We see a lot of Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler who lead the film in this latest trailer, and actually makes it move marginally higher up on my list for the end of the year. Watch the trailer here.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS TEASER

I never read the Percy Jackson books and didn’t even watch the films until Disney+ existed, it just came out around that time when every studio was trying to make their own Harry Potter, and seemed like one of the more intriguing ones. Despite the success as books, it struggled at the box office and Disney recognises that and is hoping it can have life during it’s reboot for their streaming service. I’m all for adaptations generally being on the smaller screen, both this applying for books and games so they can fit in all the detail that would get missed out on the big screen trying to squeeze it into a couple of hours. The teaser doesn’t show much, but I’m sure fans will be anticipating the December 20th release date for the first two episodes.

THE MARVELS BUDGET

During the week it was reported that The Marvels had a budget similar to Ant-Man and the Wasp, Marvel’s lowest budget production so far. This was later confirmed by Forbes as very wrong, and it actually has one of the highest since Avengers: Endgame, with a budget of nearly $275 million, including a $55 million subsidy from the UK Government. Unfortunately, that does mean the film needs to make even more at the box office to break even, likely having to crack around $450 million just to break even. This does perhaps make some sense with the film reported to the shortest film in the MCU so far, coming in at 98 minutes including the credits according to Crypic HD QUALITY, this means that the film will be able to be shown more often and have more screenings, and able to make back the money they need to break even.

WRITERS STRIKES COMING TO END?

Might we finally be coming towards the end of the WGA strike? Yesterday heads of studios met with the Guild to begin talks and it sounds like things went postively as they are set to meet again today to resume negotians, a big step in the right direction to fairly pay writers the money they deserve. Hopefully this will also get studios in a position to negotiate with SAG-AFTRA so film productions can resume, and people can get on with their work and be paid fairly.
