FIRST LOOK AT SUPERMAN

The hotly anticapated Superman will be the first film in James Gunn’s fresh start to the DCU. Production is well underway so fans have been waiting everyday for Gunn to reveal the suit that David Corenswet will wear for his portrayal of Clark Kent, and now we have it. Gunn revealed the suit on his Instagram, and yes, if you look closely the red trunks on the outside are returning. It’s a good mix of Cavill’s Man of Steel suit and Reeve’s Superman suit. I’m excited to see more of it, and I don’t think any real judgement can be made about it until we see it motion, hopefully this will also kick off us seeing the rest of the cast in costume as well. Superman is set to be released July 11th 2025.

THE HUNT FOR GOLLUM

Lord of the Rings has struggled to hit the heights the first three films managed to achieve under Peter Jackson, who also directed The Hobbit films, which didn’t fully live up to the excitement that fans built up for returning to Middle Earth. Rings of Power also struggled to find it’s feet, (I’m the only person I know that finished it, and I’m not even a huge Middle Earth fan), so Warner Brothers have announced they are heading back to the big screen with the franchise. WB have announced that two LOTR films are in the work, the first of which is be released as early as 2026. The film will be called The Hunt for Gollum, and see Andy Serkis return to the role that gave him such credit for his motion capture performance, Serkis will also direct the film, something he has done a few times with Breathe, Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle and Venom: Let there be Carnage. I’ve got a lot of love for Serkis, his focus of moving forward the computer generated craft with motion capture is extremely commendable, and I’ll happily watch anything he does.

GIANCARLO ESPOSITO IN THE MCU

It has long been rumoured that Giancarlo Esposito would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and he’s been openly happily to join the universe and would love to, even lending more to the theories he was already cast in the universe. I’ve often said he would be a fantastic Professor X in an X-Men movie. Esposito seemingly confirms he is joining the universe during his panel at CCXP Mexico, saying he’s going to be playing an original character. Now that’s rare generally anyway, but he also said we would be seeing him sooner rather than later, which certainly limits the projects he could appear in, virtually limiting it exclusively to an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine or in Agatha. Deadpool seems the most likely, Esposito is a big actor and would be a good get, it could be a variant of Deadpool, or he could just be lying and I hope he is, there’s a lot of fantastic characters he could play and be fantastic casting for. I guess we will find out sooner rather than later.

THE MAZE RUNNER REBOOT

Like seemingly everyone of the those teen films, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, The Maze Runner joins the list of franchises getting rebooted. The Hollywood Reporter broke that Jack Paglen is brought onto the project to write the reboot. Paglen only has 3 writing credits to his name, Alien: Covenant, Transcendence and series, Roadside Picnic (which didn’t get picked up past the pilot episode), not a great track record for Paglen, especially considering that The Maze Runner films are relatively well regarded. You never know, it might be great and I’m interested if it does explore more of the lore the books.

Thank you for returning and checking out the latest FF TH, I’m glad to bring it back, apologies it has been a long time coming for a few reasons. Partially due to the writer and actor strike last year, film and tv news dried up and I lost motivation to continue at the point, as well as I was going to the cinema. I am happy to say I’m back to regularly going to the cinema and have done multiple reviews this week, for Challengers, The Fall Guy and Abigail, so check those out. I should be watching IF and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes all before next week’s FF TH so keep an eye out for those and see you next Thursday!
