WAKE UP DEAD MAN: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY

The biggest news of the week came in the form of Rian Johnson revealing the title for the next film in the Knives Out universe, Wake Up Dead Man. Daniel Craig will return as the already beloved southern detective, Benoit Blanc, in what might be his favourite role that he’s done. The internet went into a frenzy trying to ensemble a cast for the film, and slowly we have been getting reveals of who is going to be in the film. The cast so far includes Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor and Cailee Spaeny, with Tom Hardy and Lindsay Lohan also being rumoured.

MOANA 2 TRAILER

It feels like Moana 2 was suddenly sprung upon us. The film was originally supposed to be released as a series on Disney+ but has been condensed down into a film which will get a cinematic release. I love the first film, fantastic animation and some great songs, makes it one of Disney’s best original releases within the last decade. the first look we got doesn’t show too much and is very much more of a teaser giving nothing away about what the plot will hold for Moana and Maui. The film is still several months away so expect the marketing to ramp up from August onwards, but it makes that this would get put before Inside Out 2.

PIXAR REBOOTS

It feels weird to say Pixar have been struggling in recent years when they’ve put out the likes of Elemental, Turning Red, Luca, Soul and Onward all as original properties, some of which going straight to streaming. It was a result of Covid that particularly Onward struggled at the box office, but I’d say all of those ones I’ve mentioned have been hits, but would I have rather seen them in the cinema? Absolutely. Instead the one they chose to give a cinema release to was Lightyear, which itself was okay, but didn’t live up to the potential of what could’ve been. We are just a couple of weeks away from Inside Out 2 and already know Toy Story 5 is coming in 2026.

The word Reboot has been thrown around alot with this report from Bloomberg, but I think it will be more like sequels. Pixar are looking to get immediate hits across all fronts. Because of the success of the likes of The Incredibles and Finding Nemo, they made a lot of money from merchandise, as well as including them in their theme parks, but you aren’t seeing the same love for the likes of Luca and Soul. I think Pixar will likely try to return to their previous success of going alternatively between a sequel and an original idea. I expect to see another Finding Nemo and The Incredibles to at least make those franchises a trilogy, alongside Monsters Inc, which currently has a Disney+ sequel series which focuses on a different character. The executives incharge need to remember and focus on what got them to the front of the animated film market, creative ideas, great storytelling and fun for the whole family, otherwise Pixar might start to fall away even further.

NICHOLAS GALITZINE CAST AS HE-MAN

A live action Masters of the Universe movie has been trying to get going for a long time. In 2019, Noah Centineo signed onto the role of He-Man in the film, but ultimately dropped out in 2021, and we haven’t heard any development since then. Until this week, Nicholas Galitzine revealed he will be taking on the role. Galitzine has slowly been breaking out onto the scene. He appeared in Bottoms, Purple Hearts, Cinderella (2021) and recently alongside Anne Hathaway in The Idea of You. He is certainly starting to break out and this role could very well be the break he gets to become a full-on leading He-Man. That being said the fact this film has been floating around for so long, doesn’t give me the highest of confidence in the project.

DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE POPCORN BUCKET

This is barely news, but Ryan Reynolds has been teasing it for so long. After the comparisons that were made for the Dune: Part Two Sandworm popcorn buckets, Reynolds announced they were working on something special for Deadpool & Wolverine, here it is. A big Wolverine face that will be full of popcorn, no doubt these will fly off shelves in just under two months time.
