Terminator Genisys Review

“I’ll be back!” Lets hope terminator doesn’t return again!

Terminator Genisys stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese.

Terminator Genisys is the 5th Installment of the Terminator series, which does not want to die. The film starts in the future with John Connor leading a team on the final attack to take down Skynet. Unfortunately Skynet manages to send a Terminator back in time to kill John’s mother. John sends Kyle back to stop the Terminator but when he gets there we find out that an old Terminator has taken out that Terminator and that the old Terminator has been protecting Sarah Connor from Terminators. This means there is a new timeline which has been created and Sarah Connor has been told about the future as she tries to bring down Skynet before Judgement Day has ever happened. Then when John turns up and we find out that he has been turned into a Terminator himself! Kyle, Sarah and the old Terminator continue their plan to stop Skynet and stop John Connor.

I think that the best part of this film was Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor as is a perfect replacement for Linda Hamilton. Jason Clarke was solid as John Connor but I felt like he deserved a better film to be in because I think Jason is an amazing actor. but unfortunately the rest of the cast didn’t really perform. Jai Courtney was typical Jai Courtney, he perhaps would have been better playing one of the robots and I really didn’t feel like Emilia and Jai had the best chemistry and that story line was very forced. Arnie is just too old. The film tries to make old jokes at the character but they always fell flat and they obviously have to come up with an excuse as to why a Terminator had aged. Arnie also had far too many lines for a robot, a lot of the time it was to explain something for the audience or to reuse one of his old one liners from previous films.

The CGI was pretty solid I felt, apart from the Terminators in the future which were pretty obviously all CGIed in at a later stage. The time travel also didn’t always make sense because they had created a new timeline then how were John and Kyle there? It is also not explained who sent back the old Terminator who is protecting Sarah. Maybe it will be explained in the next Terminator film which we all know there will be. The twist about John Connor being a Terminator was completely stupid but it would have been better had we not known about that going into the film. Also don’t bother staying for the mid credits scene.

Overall, I rate Terminator Genisys 5/10. I really feel like there is potential for another great Terminator film somewhere but I don’t know if we will ever get it.
