Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Review

One of my favourite films ever!!!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind stars Jim Carrey (its not a comedy I promise), Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, Kirsten Dunst, David Cross and Tom Wilkinson.

When Joel (Jim Carrey) decides to skip a day off work on Valentines Day, he decides on an impromptu trip to the beach, he thinks about how lonely he is. On the way back, he meets a woman called Clementine who lives in the same area that he lives. They hit it off.  Many months later, Joel is then shocked as he finds out that Clementine has had her memory erased of everything to do with him. Looking for answers, he goes to the Business that erased her memory and he decides to get Clementine erased from his memory. As his memories disappear, it is as if Joel is relieving them and he rediscovers his love for her. Joel decides he no longer wants to forget her and tries to escape the procedure, from within his own mind.

This film in every way is incredible. The acting by everyone is amazing (Jim Carrey should play me if there was ever a film about my life), even the secondary characters are incredible. It is really relatable, I clearly related to Joel. You really feel for him as he tries to fight for Clementine and keep his memories.

This film is a bit like inception in the way that after you have seen the ending you will go back and rewatch it and it will mean something different to you each time and it is incredibly clever and just bizarre as well. It isn’t a romantic film. Romance is obviously a big part but it is dramatic and has a science fiction element to it as well. It is a film you have to pay attention to. I thought the way the lighting was used great throughout the film and the use of colour was amazing I think there are a few lessons in the film which I learnt, like just get on with life and enjoy it, instead of worrying but also to hold onto the things and people you love.

Overall, I rate Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 10/10! It is so clever and amazing and I can’t give it high enough praise. It is easily in my top 10 films of all time! If you haven’t seen it, you have to!

So what do you think about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?

      1. I think I just leave you to watch it, but if you enjoyed Eternal Sunshine, I think you’ll enjoy this one, too. It’s completely unrestricted Kaufman.
