“It’s not an S” Yes it is Superman and you know it is!

Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe and Lawrence Fishburne.

With The Dark Knight trilogy finished and Marvel owning the box office, Zach Snyder and DC decided to create their own cinematic universe starting with the origin of Superman.

When the planet of Krypton is in danger, Jor-El and Lara send their son, Kal-El to Earth. Kal-El lands on Earth and is found by Martha and Jonathon Kent and name him Clark. While Clark is growing up, he discovers super powers and learns about where he really came from. Clark (Henry Cavill) goes around the world doing random jobs, but when his powers are called upon he has to move on. When he finds a ship from his planet, he learns about what happened to Krypton and learns what he must do and is given a suit. However, General Zod (Michael Shannon), a Krytonian who was exciled from his planet, finds Clark and has different plans for Earth. With the help of the American army, Superman must stop Zod before he destroys the world.

This Superman movie is a little bit different. Zach Snyder, along with Christopher Nolan’s help, looks to create a dark universe for DC characters. At the time when I first watched it, I didn’t like Man of Steel too much but I have grown to appreciate it for what it is. I thought Henry Cavill did a really good job portraying Clark Kent and he looks the part, and everyone else did a good job too. Russell Crowe was good as Jor-El but I felt like he was just their to get the characters out of the situation. Amy Adams (as Lois Lane) was my biggest problem with the film, mainly because she just popped up everywhere even though she didn’t need to and it happens too much. Another was the big distruction caused in the final battle, but that looks like it will be dealt with in Batman V Superman. Also I felt the score was incredible. Hans Zimmer is one of the best composers out there and he does a great job on this without using the original Superman theme tune that everyone knows. A lot of people have criticised this film for being too dark, but I understand that they want the DC universe to be completely different to Marvel and I am okay with it. Man of Steel is far from a perfect movie but it does a good job of setting up the rest of their cinematic universe.

Overall, I rate Man of Steel 8/10! I previously would have scored it lower when I was looking for a lighter version of the superhero. I am still very unsure how they are going to make The Flash dark, we will have to wait and see.
