A Nightmare on Elm Street Review

RIP Wes Craven

A Nightmare on Elm Street stars Heather Langenkamp, Johnny Depp, Robert Englund, Jsu Garcia and Amanda Wyss.

Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) is having horrific nightmares about a bad badly scarred man who wears a glove that has blades attached the figures. Nancy soon realises that her friends are having similar dreams involving the same mysterious man. When her friends are killed one by one, she soon realises that it is from within the dream that they are being killed and she must stay awake to survive. She finds out who this strange man is and his link to Elm Street. Will Nancy be able to draw the man out into the real world or will Freddy Krueger kill her first?

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic film that everyone must see! I am not a massive horror fan but I love A Nightmare on Elm Street and would definitely put it in my top 10 favourite films of all time. The concept itself is amazing and horrifying, it made people genuinely scared to fall asleep and that is genius. Sleeping is one thing everyone enjoys and to turn that into something that could be feared is brilliant. Freddy Krueger is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time and it is because of this film! He is not only scary but has an amazing dark sense of humour before they turned the sequels into comedies. I think this film really showed that Horror films didn’t have to be all scary and it had fun with it, something Wes Craven continued with the Scream franchise.

Overall, I rate A Nightmare on Elm Street 9/10! If you still think it is not for you, it isn’t as gruesome as the Saw films and there aren’t as many jump scares like in every horror film at the moment.

What do you think of A Nightmare on Elm Street? What is your favourite Wes Craven film?
