John Wick Review

Don’t set him off!

John Wick stars Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Willem Dafoe, Dean Winters and Adrienne Palicki.

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is a retired hit-man who recently lost his wife. To make sure he isn’t alone, his wife leaves him a puppy to keep him company. One day, John is filling up his Mustang and Iosef (Alfie Allen), who is the son of a powerful Russian mobster, asks how much John would be willing to sell the car for, John refuses. Iosef tracks down John and turns up at his house during the night beats up John, steals his car and kills his car. Iosef then finds out from his father, Viggo (Michael Nyqvist), about John’s past and what a mistake he has made. John Wick will now stop at nothing to kill Iosef, as he had nothing to lose now.

You would think that non-stop action would get boring but it doesn’t. This is one of the best action films I have ever seen. It was entertaining, had a few light hearted moments, but you really did believe that Keanu Reeves was John Wick. You really feel for the character after losing his wife, then having his car stolen and his dog killed, which was emotional I nearly cried. Keanu is hardly the worlds most amazing actor, but he was perfect for this role and I am hoping it will give him a boost and go on to be better in his upcoming films. The other hitmen and mobsters in the film do a pretty standard job and were pretty replaceable. The story and plot is really basic and if you really think about it too much you won’t enjoy it, but if you just sit and watch it, it is amazing. With the end of the Taken trilogy it was good to see a new action film and one with a new concept that we haven’t seen before.

Overall, I rate John Wick 8/10! A lot of fun, great action film. I would have liked for it to be a standalone and they will have to persuade me for John Wick 2.
