Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens Review (No Spoilers)

STAR WARS IS BACK!

Star Wars The Force Awakens stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Max Von Sydow, Domhnall Gleeson, Peter Mayhew, C3P0, R2D2 and BB-8!

This is a very basic summary of the story, but Luke Skywalker is missing and the remaining parts of the Empire have formed the First Order, the newly formed Resistance has decided to compete to find Luke first. Along with help from new allies, the Resistance might have found how to find Luke but can the First Order and their new super weapon stop them.

My initial reaction to The Force Awakens, was that I was quite disappointed, however after more time thinking about it and seeing it for a second time, I learned to appreciate it for what it was instead of all the hype that I had built up. expecting it to be the best movie ever made. It isn’t the best movie ever made, but it is still very good! I think that JJ Abrams really brought us back to the Star Wars universe in a really interesting way and what this film set up for the next film really intrigues me and I can not wait.

First, positives. The new characters are fantastic! I really, really liked Rey (Daisy Ridley), she is great to see and fits perfectly into the Star Wars universe that we all know and is my Favorited out of the new characters, and one of my favourites out of all 7 movies. Finn (John Boyega) is very funny and his story goes a bit differently to how I expected but I think that is something interesting and I look forward seeing how his story continues. Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is fantastic, he feels like he is straight out of the original trilogy. Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is one of the best villains we have seen but I will talk about that more in my spoiler review. BB-8 is the best droid we have seen in the Star Wars universe, so funny, cute and interesting. The returning cast were also really good and it felt as if they were really back as their characters and you didn’t just see them as old Han Solo, old Leia and old Luke.

My negatives about the film, were that it felt like it was very similar to a previous Star Wars film. I understood why it was like that though, in that there was too much too set up. I also felt that the scenes were so fast and it was action after action after action but it didn’t get boring but I felt like the film needed a breather at some point. It had so much to set up for the rest of the series and trying to fill the 30 year gap that the story took a bit of a back seat and it focused on the main characters, which worked as everyone is loving the new characters however, the secondary characters suffer because of this. Another small nit pick is that I felt the film was too jokey sometimes, the original films have comedy in but not loads, where as in The Force Awakens there was quite a bit and it doesn’t take you out but it was slightly too much for me too fully enjoy as much as I wanted.

However, I really feel the positives out way the negatives, which is why I rate Star Wars The Force Awakens 8/10! A really good film, that anyone can enjoy, Star Wars fan or not. Can’t wait to see this film smashing records!

I will do a review talking about things that could be considered spoilery within the next couple of days.
