In this ever changing film industry it’s hard to say if any of these films are gonna shift, but with the recent strong box office performances of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and No Time to Die, it looks like cinema has well and truly returned, so let’s look ahead to the next few exciting months of releases for UK Cinemas.

HALLOWEEN KILLS (October 15th)

It’s that time of year where horror dominates cinema, but it’s quite a quiet year considering, mostly because the sequel to the 2018 Halloween did very well at the box office and sat well with audiences and critics. This one taking place immediately where we left off as Michael Myers somehow survived his encounter with Laurie Strode. And we will have this all over again next year with Halloween Ends.

THE LAST DUEL (October 15th)

The first of a two Ridley Scott attempts to win big at next years Oscars with a historical drama, sees an all star cast featuring Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Adam Driver and the hugely talented Jodie Comer, take part in this based on a true story film about The Last Duel recorded in the 14th Century.

VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE (October 15th)

Probably the film that will do the best on October 15th out of the three, the first Venom did well with general audiences with a fan favourite character and an actor that brings in audiences. Tom Hardy returns, but is joined by Woody Harrelson who plays Cletus Kasady, a seriel killer who turns into the symbiote, Carnage. This time Andy Serkis takes on directing. Perhaps the thing audiences want to see most is how or if there will be a crossover on the way with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

DUNE (October 22nd)

Denis Villeneuve might be my favourite working director. He has recently knocked it out the park with films such as Prisoners, Arrival, Sicario and one of my favourites of all time, Blade Runner 2049. His previous work is enough to get me excited but to see him return to sci-fi and given a huge budget to make this epic story. The cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Stellen Skarsgard. Do I need to say more? This is a must watch on the biggest screen possible!

THE FRENCH DISPATCH (October 22nd)

Wes Anderson’s unique and stunning works of art are back. His last film being Isle of Dogs a couple of years ago, another all star cast is ensembled this time with the focus of the story being on journalism. The cast includes Lea Seydoux, Timothee Chalamet, Christoph Waltz, Saoirse Ronan, Jeffrey Wright, Adrien Brody, Elisabeth Moss, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Benicio Del Toro, Bill Murray, Liev Schreiber, Jason Schwartzman and Toni Revolori. What a cast!

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO (October 29th)

Okay so there’s a lot of films coming out riding of the hype that they’re being made by incredible filmmakers and Last Night in Soho is another one. Edgar Wright, mostly known for his comedic films with the Cornetto trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End), as well as Scott Pilgrim vs The World and Baby Driver. This time he tries his hand at psychological horror with Thomasin Mckenzie, Anya Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith starring.

ETERNALS (November 5th)

We aren’t quite done with Marvel yet in 2021. Eternals sees a whole host of new characters joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A property I don’t know much about but Marvel have been consistently good and with the success of Shang Chi and a talented director like Chloe Zhao (Who won an Oscar this year for Nomadland) behind the film, I have a lot of faith in this one. The cast includes Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia Mchugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Ma Dong-Seok, Kit Harrington, Salma Hayek and Angelina Jolie.

KING RICHARD (November 12th)

Will Smith has had a couple of attempts to win an Oscar with Collateral Beauty, Concussion and The Pursuit of Happyness. This year feels like it might be one of his best chances as he portrays Richard Williams, father to tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams.

GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE (November 18th)

The 2016 all female Ghostbusters, didn’t go too well did it. This time son of the director of the original two films is taking over the reigns. It feels like a natural way to take the franchise and automatically makes the film feel like it’s in more trusted hands. As a single mum and her kids move to a small town and find the legacy their grandfather left behind, an original Ghostbuster! This one definetly feels like it has a Stranger Things vibe which is only a good thing, and it’s not just because Finn Wolfhard is in it.

ENCANTO (November 26th)

It feels like it’s been so long since we last had an animated Disney film. There hasn’t been a lot of marketing for Encanto yet, but we do know it’s about a young girl who is the only one in her family without magical powers. A strong Latin cast is the perfect mix when you add in the fact that Lin-Manuel Miranda has written songs for the film.

HOUSE OF GUCCI (November 26th)

Here we are at Ridley Scott’s second film of 2021, this time focusing on another historical drama inspired by the family empire which is the Italian fashion house of Gucci. Another strong cast, and a directed as talented as Ridley Scott to show the mystery and crime. House of Gucci stars Adam Driver, Lady Gaga, Salma Hayek, Al Pacino, Jeremy Irons and Jared Leto.

WEST SIDE STORY (December 10th)

Into the final month of 2021, and we have got some of the biggest at the end. Starting with Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story. The original was a huge success with the academy awards winning a huge 10 Awards in 1962 (An achievement only beaten by Ben-Hur, Titanic and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King), I’m sure Spielberg will be hoping for the same level of success 50 years later.

SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (December 17th)

Perhaps the most anticipated film of the year let alone the most anticipated on this list. After the multiverse was opened up in Disney+ show Loki, and teases of it in What If…? and Wandavision, and the next Marvel film being Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a return of Jamie Foxx as Electro (Reprising his role from The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Alfred Molina as Doc Oc (who we last saw drowning in Spider-Man 2), there are more than enough signs that we might also see Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield returning as Peter Parker. At this stage, they have to be in it or fans will be furious.

THE KING’S MAN (December 22nd)

Matthew Vaughn returns to direct this prequel showing the origin of The Kingsman secret agency as they try to prevent a plot to wipe out millions. This time Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode, Gemma Arterton, Stanley Tucci, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Charles Dance, Daniel Bruhl, Rhys Ifans and Djimon Hounsou all star.

THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS (December 22nd)

I can appreciate The Matrix films, but I’ve never been a huge fan, that being said, this will be one of the biggest films of the year. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss return to the franchise, with Neil Patrick-Harris, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathon Gross, Priyanka Chopra, Jessica Henwick, Christina Ricci and Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Lana Wachowski returning to direct.

If there aren’t multiple films in this list to get excited for, I don’t know what to tell you. It’s going to be a great end to the year for cinemas and a busy one! Lots of huge films coming out that will be infinitely better on the biggest screen possible, and it’s just as exciting to find those unknown ones, those unexpected hits that blow the audiences away.
